BBC Sport pundit Kenny Miller doesn’t think Rangers’ newly-appointed sporting director Ross Wilson will have a hard act to follow at Ibrox, as he blasted the reign of the recently departed Mark Allen.

On Monday, Rangers replaced Allen in the boardroom with Southampton’s highly-rated sporting director Wilson, as reported by BBC Sport.

Wilson has a lot of experience in his locker, both in English football and Scottish football, as a lot will be expected of him during these coming seasons.

Speaking to Sportsound on BBC Radio Scotland, Miller doesn’t think Rangers’ transfer policy was clear when Allen was in charge, as he claimed that he can’t see the club signing ’12-15 players every summer’.

On Mark Allen being a hard act to follow: “No, I wouldn’t say so,” Miller told Sportsound. “I know Steven [Gerrard] spoke very highly of him. The decisions to part ways with him [Allen] is still strange. I don’t know a lot about it. A lot didn’t come out. It was quite sudden that he left.

“I think he actually did an interview two or three weeks prior to him leaving where he was talking about the future. Once again, I’m not too sure what went on there. Analysing the job he did, a lot of players were signed, that’s for sure. The success of players will be up for debate, it depends on who you ask.

On Wilson: “It actually depends on what the job entails – I don’t know if his role is going to be similar to the one Mark’s was. A scouting system needed to be put in place at Ibrox. It was sorely lacking at the club, at the time. Ross has had a lot of experience at Southampton working with a very, very good academy down there.

“There have been a lot of players signed at Ibrox over the last few seasons, again that for me is not really sustainable moving forward, so that will have to be a lot more clear in regards to the type of the players that they want and the profile of players that they want. I can’t see them signing 12-15 players every summer.”

The end goal for Rangers is winning the Scottish Premiership title, and if Steven Gerrard can achieve that then the Gers fans won’t be too fussed about what type of transfer strategy the club is using.

During these past two transfer windows, Rangers have been busy, as they have secured the services of a number of highly-experienced players, such as Steven Davis and Jermain Defoe.

On the other hand, the have also added some highly-rated youngsters to their ranks, from the very popular Ryan Kent to Joe Aribo.
