One of Rangers duo Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent will be hoping to win Scotland’s PFA Player of the Year award.
Kenny Miller has claimed that Allan McGregor is ‘very unfortunate’ to miss out on the PFA’s Player of the Year shortlist as he believes he should replace Ryan Kent.
As reported by BBC Sport, Liverpool loanee Kent, along with his Gers teammate Alfredo Morelos were nominated for the prestigious award. As were Callum McGregor and James Forrest.
But speaking to BBC Radio Scotland, Miller thinks that Kent should be the young player and Rangers’ ‘best signing’ McGregor should be on that four-man shortlist instead.
“For me, Allan McGregor has been outstanding,” Miller told Sportsround. “One of the outstanding players of the season. For me, Rangers’ best signing. He has definitely earned them points over the course of the season. A big part of the European run.
“I thought he would be definite top four, along with Morelos, Callum McGregor and James Forrest. Ryan Kent, I’m a huge, huge fan of. He’s had a great season for a young lad coming up and having an impact at a massive club. They lack that cutting edge without him in the team, but I think he should be the young player.
“But Allan McGregor has been very unfortunate to miss out on that top four I would say.”
Goalkeeper McGregor has been a key figure for Steven Gerrard’s side this season and he was a big reason as to why they overachieved in the Europa League this term.
The 37-year-old has vasts amounts of experience, having played in England for the likes of Hull City and Cardiff, not forgetting that he already has three Scottish Premiership titles to his name.
Over the course of the season, he has played 51 games in all competitions for the club, conceding 38 goals and securing 23 clean sheets [transfermarkt].
Nonetheless, Gerrard will be hoping he can continue in his ways next term because the Light Blues will be looking to dethrone Celtic from the top of the table.
