Kenny Miller claims Motherwell will find it ‘very, very tough’ to keep hold of reported Rangers & Celtic target Jake Hastie

Old Firm duo Celtic and Rangers are reportedly keeping track of Motherwell’s Jake Hastie.

Kenny Miller has waxed-lyrical about Motherwell winger Jake Hastie, who has reportedly been attracting interest from Rangers and Celtic.

The Scottish Sun claimed that the Old Firm duo are tracking the youngster, alongside Championship duo Middlesbrough and Hull, with his contract at Fir Park set to expire at the end of the season.

Over the weekend, Hastie helped Motherwell secure a comfortable 3-0 win over Hamilton in the Scottish Premiership by getting on the scoresheet in the first-half, with a well-placed finished.

Speaking to Sportscene on BBC Sport Scotland (10/03/2019 at 12:10 am), former Premiership striker Miller was in awe of the ‘real goal threat’ that is 19-year-old Hastie.

“He’s pacy, he’s powerful, he’s direct,” Miller told Sportscene. “The thing for me is that for a young man he is a real goal threat coming off that side [on right flank]. He shows it for his goal [against Hamilton].

“He’s making a name for himself. It is a shame for Motherwell that he’s out of contract in the summer because there will be a lot of suitors. He has the end product and the goals he is getting already at this stage of his career is excellent.

“When you’ve got teams like Rangers and Celtic sniffing about, Championship teams in England, I think it’s going to be very, very tough to keep him considering the form he is in.”

With Hastie’s contract seemingly running out and the youngster in a rich vein of form, it is now becoming obvious that he will be heading for the exit door in the summer.

Joining either Old Firm duo would be a logical step, but as we saw with former Hibernian midfielder John McGinn last summer, he ended up joining Championship side Aston Villa and he hasn’t looked back since.

Over the course of the season, Hastie has bagged 10 goals for his club [Soccer Base] and he will be looking to add to that tally as the Premiership season enters its final few months.

He has played a massive part in Steven Robinson side currently sitting one place and two points outside of the top-six as they will be looking to leapfrog Hibernian before the split.
