The Celtic man retired from Scotland duty in August.
Kenny Dalglish has told The Scottish Herald that Celtic captain Scott Brown might come to regret his decision to retire from international duty.
The 31-year-old called time on his career with Scotland back in August, but his form this season proves that he still has plenty to offer.
Brown is enjoying a new lease of life under Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, and Dalglish claims he was “exceptional” in last week’s 3-3 draw with Manchester City in the Champions League.
He followed that up with a match-winning display in Saturday’s 1-0 win at Dundee, in which he looked to thrive in being given a slightly more advanced midfield role.
With Scotland set for their second and third games in World Cup 2018 qualifying over the next 10 days, Brown’s form at Celtic suggests he could really help his nation ahead of clashes with Lithuania and Slovakia shortly.
And Scottish legend Dalglish feels he might well regret the decision if Gordon Strachan’s side reach Russia in two years.
Asked by The Herald if he would regret it in that instance, the veteran said: “Let’s hope he’s got that problem. He’s made his decision and he’ll have to lie in his own bed, won’t he?
“It’s always strange when you hear of players retiring from international football – I thought you had to be selected before you could retire. I don’t understand that one.
“Okay, he might have had some injury problems, but if I was being picked for my country I’d always go.
“Scott has been fantastic for Celtic and for Scotland and we are not in a position where we can afford to lose people of his quality.
“His performance against Manchester City last week was exceptional and that lets you know we’ll miss him.”
