Candeias was sent off for a second yellow card during Rangers win over St. Mirren.
Sir Kenny Dalglish has told Daniel Candeias to learn from his mistake in his Sunday Post column after the Rangers winger was sent off against St. Mirren for a second bookable offence.
The 30-year-old was sent off by referee Willie Collum after being shown a second yellow card for an incident involving St. Mirren’s experienced defender Anton Ferdinand.
The decision enraged fans on social media, with replays showing very little by way of provocation or anything worthy of a yellow card. But Celtic legend Dalglish believes Candeias needs to learn from his first yellow card.
The Portuguese winger was shown a caution by Collum during his celebrations after Rangers’ first goal in the 2-0 win, which he scored from outside the box. Dalglish believes that even though the second yellow was harsh, he must learn from the first.
“This will also have been a big learning curve for Candeias,” Dalglish said. “His first yellow card was given to him for his celebrations when he scored the opening goal, and he must learn from that.
“As much as Collum has been criticised, the player has to take responsibility for the first yellow and be aware of the consequences.
“Listen, as all footballers know, there is no greater feeling than scoring a goal and sharing that moment of ecstasy with the supporters. But you have to stop yourself from crossing the threshold.”
Candeias has been superb form this season, scoring three goals and creating another four in 21 league and cup outings. He won the Player of the Season award last time around.
The SFA have since ruled that Candeias’ ban would be upheld, which saw him miss the 7-1 win over Motherwell.
