Liverpool had a shocking late collapse to QPR last night, and the timing couldn’t have been much worse for King Kenny.
If you are going to make big statements as a manager, you have to be able to back them up.
Kenny Dalglish made some bold comments in yesterday’s newspapers about how strongly Liverpool can end the season.
They don’t look too clever after last night. Let’s have a look at what he said again.
Talking about new signings: “It will have to be a hell of a player to come in and improve on what this group have done.”
“These boys are in pole position and they are sitting their comfortable; not one of them can be disappointed with what they have contributed this season.”
“The top four is still a target, we’ve got to aim to win our remaining 10 games.”
It was remarked yesterday to us that Kenny Dalglish had more chance of winning the lottery than the club winning their final 10 games. Last night showed that to be quite apt.
The top four should be a distant thought right now. Champions League? You’re having a laugh.
Even a ‘home banker’ against Wigan Athletic this weekend poses a real challenge for a side which has lost four of their last five Premier League games.
On the basis of Liverpool’s home form this season, draws with Norwich, Swansea, Blackburn and Stoke, there is no guaranteed win.
Perhaps if Dalglish could see that the players who he says ‘should not be disappointed with their contribution’, were in fact vastly underperforming, then he would be able to do something about it, but until he takes his head out of the sand, Liverpool will continue along this painful route.
