Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers are expected to appoint a new manager and director of football in the near future.
Kenny Dalglish has told BBC Sport that Glasgow Rangers’ intention to appoint a new director of football is not doomed to fail.
The director of football role is a controversial one in Britain, with many supporters feeling that a manager should have complete autonomy over his squad.
However, Dalglish doesn’t subscribe to that theory, and believes that Rangers are not being unwise by offering their new boss support.
Rangers are expected to appoint Pedro Caixinha as their permanent manager, with Ross Willson becoming director of football (BBC Sport).
And Dalglish said of Rangers’ impeding appointments: “I don’t know what they will put in place, but I’m sure the board of Rangers and the management and the staff and the supporters are all looking for them to be a lot more competitive in the next couple of years.
“As long as the lines of demarcation are perfectly clear: if you’re the director of football and I’m the manager, you will do the negotiations for players or transfers then I don’t need to have anything to do with it.”
Caixinha would be somewhat of a surprise appointment for Rangers, given his relative lack of reputation.
However, the Portuguese boss is believed to have impressed Rangers’ board and has been told that the job at Ibrox is his, should he want it.
Caixinha is not expected to take over at Rangers prior to the weekend, when the Light Blues take on Celtic in the Old-Firm derby.
Rangers are currently in third place in the Scottish Premiership table.
