Kenny Dalglish has stated that Giovanni van Bronckhorst has the ‘coaching experience’ and is a ‘strong candidate’ to become the next Rangers manager, as he told the Sunday Post.

The Scotland legend also added that he did his ‘best work’ at Feyenoord and touched upon how the Ibrox hero understands Rangers as a club.

Steven Gerrard’s departure from Rangers is still having its after-effects and the Gers are still on the lookout for his replacement.

Van Bronckhorst was a name that shot straight out from the cannon when Gerrard left for Aston Villa, as the Dutchman has had positive talks with the Scottish Premiership champions, according to BBC Sport.

That doesn’t mean he will return to Rangers, but Dalglish shared his honest thoughts on the 46-year-old amid those rumours.

“Giovanni knows the club and has coaching experience,” said Dalglish. “His best work being done at Feyenoord. He is also a strong candidate.

“All eyes are on this vacancy, and whoever is the new Rangers manager will be under the spotlight from the first minute to see if he can do as well as Steven – and even better.”

It’s just a simple case of having to deal with a Scottish League Cup semi-final against Hibernian to the person that is handed the keys to the Glasgow giants.

On one hand, you don’t want to be losing such a game in what will be their first match in charge, although none of the blame will lay on the new manager.

But, if the Gers can win, then what a way to get your Ibrox career started, or in Van Bronckhorst’s case, re-started.

Either way, this is an appointment those in the Ibrox boardroom have to get right because, at this moment in time, they are favourites to defend their Premiership crown.

But all of that could change during this busy festive period and then leading up to the Old Firm itself.
