Tottenham Hotspur beat CSKA Moscow 3-1 on Wednesday night.
Former Premier League defender Kenny Cunningham has told Eir Sport that Tottenham Hotspur’s Danny Rose could’ve done better to prevent CSKA Moscow’s opening goal in Wednesday’s 3-1 win for Spurs at Wembley on Wednesday night.
The Lilywhites rounded off a disappointing Champions League in style by beating the Russians to confirm their entry into the Europa League after finishing third in group E, behind Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen.
Alan Dzagoev opened the scoring for the visitors on 33 minutes but goals from Dele Alli and Harry Kane before half time helped flip the match on its head.
They probably should not have had to come from a goal down and that is because Dzagoev’s strike was very preventable it would seem.
CSKA played a hopeful ball into Tottenham’s final third and Rose is a mere spectator as Zoran Tosic flicked the ball into Dzaogev’s path.
Eric Dier, playing centre-back for Spurs on the night, courted criticism for his role in the concession, but Cunningham believes Rose also has a lot to answer for.
He told Eir Sport: “Very poor defending from Tottenham. It’s just a helpful ball into the penalty box and you’ve got to be defending these situations 99 times out of 100.
“I’ve got to mention Danny Rose because I think he can do better. He’s got his hands on his hips just staring at his centre-half, but there’s the danger in behind and Dzagoev senses there might be an opportunity.”
