It’s gearing up to be an emotional day for Celtic captain Scott Brown ahead of Sunday’s trip to Scottish Premiership champions Rangers at Ibrox.

Brown joined Celtic in a £4.4 million deal back in 2007 [The Guardian] but Sunday will represent his last-ever Glasgow derby against the old enemy Rangers.

The Hoops haven’t beaten Steven Gerrard’s side once in any competition this season and the 35-year-old midfielder will be fired up to change that, even if the Gers are 20 points clear in the Premiership.

Fans of the Ibrox club won’t be sad to see Brown leave after the former Scotland international due to how much the 35-year-old has teased and tormented them down the years.

But Rangers boss Gerrard paid tribute to Brown last week, claiming that this famous fixture will certainly miss his influence and personality.

And interim Celtic coach Kennedy has claimed that Gerrard well knows the respect that the Bhoys skipper deserves, even if they’re supposed to be enemies.

He told The Scottish Sun when asked about Gerrard’s comments: “That is respect from an opposition manager, who realises that and respects that. There is no denying that, in terms of what Scott has given this fixture.”

Brown skippered Celtic to the famous treble treble under Brendan Rodgers and Neil Lennon.

For a few years, the Parkhead side made winning trophies look effortless in Scotland and you only know appreciate the achievement for what it is.

Despite being absolutely brilliant this season, Rangers will only finish the campaign with one domestic trophy – the Scottish Premiership title – out of a possible three.

Makes no bones about it, Rangers fans dislike Brown vehemently, but some will also surely appreciate and respect his achievements as captain because really, it’ll be a long time before Scottish football sees a more decorated figure.
