Kemar Roofe has suggested that Leeds United’s slow start to the season was down to the number of new signings they brought in over the summer, the Yorkshire Evening Post reports.

Going into their clash with Blackburn Rovers in September, Garry Monk’s men were in danger of falling to the bottom of the Championship after picking up just one league win in their first six fixtures.

However, since beating Rovers, the Whites have gone on a much more encouraging run. Their victory over Wolves on Saturday was their fifth in their last eight games, and has taken them into the top half of the table, just three points off the top six.

And Roofe has outlined the reason he believes that Leeds struggled so much during the early stages of the campaign.

“Everyone was probably writing us off after the first few games because we didn’t get results,” he said, as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post. “Now we’re getting results people are actually seeing what we can do.

“There were so many new players who came in [during the summer] so I don’t know what people were expecting. It’s common sense. You have to get used to each other and it’s not going to click straight away but it’s clicking now.”

With so many additions to their strongest line-up, as well as the significant changes to their backroom team, it is hardly a surprise that things did not quite click for the first few weeks of the season.

But with confidence now high, it appears that Leeds are in with a good chance of coming through this transitional phase in a position that allows them to contend for a place in the play-off mix.
