Leeds United had Kemar Roofe to thank as they stormed to a 3-1 win at Loftus Road to move themselves up to seventh in the Championship.

In comments reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, Kemar Roofe has suggested that he proved a lot of people wrong during Leeds’ victory over Queens Park Rangers as not many thought he was actually that good at heading the ball.

Thomas Christiansen’s men picked up a hugely impressive win. Before the game, the Whites had not won at Loftus Road since 2011, but Roofe inspired the side to end that run.

Roofe scored a second-half hat-trick, including a brilliant header from an excellent cross from Gjanni Alioski to break the deadolock. And he suggested that that first goal showed that he has a skill in his locker that few thought was there.

“Not many people think I can head the ball. I can always do better but I showed I can do it. My goals were from very good build-up. I just had to be in the right place at the right time and execute the finish,” he said, as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

In fairness to Roofe, it must not be forgotten that his first goal for Leeds following £3 million 2016 move from Oxford United was a similarly excellent header in the win over Aston Villa in December of that year.

What will probably please Christiansen more than the fact that Roofe scored a header is that all three of his goals showed a level of versatility that will undoubtedly make him a hugely influential player during the coming months.

The win against QPR leaves Leeds seventh in the Championship table, four points off the play-off places after 21 games of the season.
