Kemar Roofe states his preferred position; Thomas Christiansen should pay attention

Kemar Roofe scored a hat-trick for Leeds United against Newport County in the Championship at the weekend.

Leeds United attacker Kemar Roofe has told The Yorkshire Evening Post that his preferred position is down the middle.

Roofe is a versatile player who can operate as a striker or as a winger. The 24-year-old was deployed out wide last season, but he did well when played down the middle earlier this week.

The 24-year-old scored a hat-trick in Leeds’s 5-1 victory over Newport County at Elland Road in the second round of the EFL Cup on Tuesday evening.

The Englishman has revealed that he prefers to play down the middle as a striker, and that he was pleased to see that he was going to play there when the teamsheet came out against Newport.

“It’s my preferred position, down the middle and up front,” Roofe told The Yorkshire Evening Post. “To get that chance, I was excited as soon as I saw the team sheet.

“I think I maybe showed that excitement! In football, with injuries or someone leaving, it opens the door for other people. Hopefully I can keep on impressing.”

With Chris Wood leaving for Burnley in the summer transfer window, Leeds need someone to lead the line this season.

Even if the Whites sign one or two more strikers between now and the end of the summer transfer window, it would be wise of Thomas Christiansen to hand Roofe more chances to play as a striker.

True, Leeds will face better teams than Newport in the Championship this season, but if Roofe feels that he is at his best when deployed as a striker, then he should be given the chance to play in that position for a few games at least.
