Leeds United are in a great position from which to achieve promotion to the Premier League this season.
Leeds ace Kemar Roofe addressed the media yesterday, and highlighted how the atmosphere in the City is completely different from last year, due to his side’s push for promotion this time around, as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post.
The Whites currently sit in second spot in the Championship table, four points adrift of league leaders Norwich City, but perhaps more importantly, three ahead of third placed Sheffield United, with just four games remaining.
Roofe, 26, has played a key role for Leeds this season, racking up 14 goals in 29 Championship outings for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, and his recent return from injury could not have come at a better time for the west Yorkshire outfit.
The former Oxford United front-man spoke to reporters yesterday, and shared how Leeds’ sustained push for automatic promotion this season has made a huge difference to the city as a whole, as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post:
“Last season we got to the point where we weren’t fighting for anything and everyone just lost interest a bit around the city. But this season it has always been there, especially when you step out the house. You are walking down the road and someone is waving at you and they want to stop you and talk to you and say how amazing it is. That’s refreshing because sometimes when you are playing you are in the bubble, tunnel vision.”
Next up for Leeds is a home game against Wigan Athletic tomorrow, before they face a trip to Brentford three days later, and a return of six points from those games will make promotion to the top flight almost a formality.
