Roofe put the home team in the lead after 18 minutes, and Pablo Hernandez doubled the advantage on the stroke of half time.
Souleymane Doukara wrapped up the three points for the West Yorkshire outfit with his goal in the third minute of injury time.
Preston ended the game with 10 men due to the sending-off of Alex Baptiste in the 86th minute.
Leeds attacker Roofe, who is 24 years of age and can operate as a winger or as a striker, has taken to Twitter to revel in the win, with the club’s fans responding to his message on the social networking site.
