Chris Wood left Leeds United to join Burnley in the Premier League.
Kemar Roofe has been speaking about Chris Wood’s Leeds United departure on talkSPORT.
The 25-year-old striker joined Premier League side Burnley in a £15 million move earlier this summer.
The New Zealand hitman netted 30 goals in all competitions last season – and 27 in the Championship – to establish himself as one of the division’s finest goalscorers.
And former team-mate Roofe feels that he cannot be criticised for wanting to play in the top flight.
“Yeah I think it was going to happen,” he told talkSPORT when asked if he had a “hunch” that Wood was going to leave.
“He was top goalscorer in the league and it’s anybody’s ambition to play in the Premier League and if a team comes in, it’s hard for him to turn it down. Hopefully it works out for him and hopefully it works out for us as well.”
Wood certainly got his Burnley career off to a flier this past weekend by scoring a last-minute equaliser in the Clarets’ 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.
But it remains to be seen whether he proves a good signing for Sean Dyche’s side in the long run, because £15 million is huge money for a club of Burnley’s footing.
Roofe looks to be profiting from Wood’s exit at Leeds as the former Oxford United man is being given chances in his new central role – and taking the opportunity with both hands.
The attacker, a £3 million signing under Garry Monk last summer, has scored four goals in his previous two games for the Whites and he will hope for more opportunities through the middle as the season progresses.
