Kemar Roofe potentially faces something of an uncertain future at Leeds United with his contract expiring at the end of next season.
Kemar Roofe has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that he has not heard anything about talks over a new contract at Leeds, but insisted that he wants to stay at Elland Road for the long-term.
Roofe has enjoyed a sensational start to the season. Marcelo Bielsa has been the coach to hand the 25-year-old his chance as a regular starter up front, and he has repaid that faith with 10 goals in 16 Championship games.
The Yorkshire Evening Post reports that his contract expires at the end of next season, and Leeds are planning talks for after the new year. And Roofe has suggested that he has no intention of going anywhere.
“Of course. This place is special,” he added, when asked about whether he wanted to agree a long-term deal. “You are in the Championship but the fan base is a different level. It doesn’t matter where I go in the country or in the world I always meet a Leeds fan and it’s always positive as well.”
It will be a huge boost for Leeds to get Roofe tied down. His form has been so impressive and he leads the line superbly in Bielsa’s system.
It has probably surprised many Leeds supporters that he has not had his deal extended already. The Whites have seen several key players use the lack of time left on their contracts to seal moves away from Elland Road in the last decade.
They are in a much better situation now than they were when some of those others players left and Roofe has insisted that he wants to stay. But getting the deal sorted and ensuring that all talk about his future stops will provide a further boost as Leeds continue to push for promotion.
