Kelly Cates noticed the ‘lovely moment’ the Liverpool players urged the unused substitutes to celebrate ‘with the League Cup trophy’ in front of their fans at Wembley on Sunday, as she told Sky Sports Football.

Liverpool beat Chelsea on penalties in an enthralling League Cup final that saw goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga blaze his crucial spot-kick over the bar.

After a goalless 120 minutes that saw numerous goals being ruled out for offside and Naby Keita possibly getting away with a red-card challenge, it was down to penalties with every single outfield player putting the ball into the back of the net.

That’s when Caoimhin Kelleher came into his own and he rocketed his penalty into the back of the net, but Kepa, who came on to save penalties, ended up missing his very own.

When the Liverpool players were celebrating their trophy win, Sky presenter and daughter of club legend, Kenny Dalglish, praised how those Liverpool players that didn’t play were treated by their teammates.

“We have just seen a lovely moment down there,” said Cates.

“Where the Liverpool players, who did take part in this game, they were sending the unused substitutes over with the trophy to celebrate in front of the Liverpool fans.

“How key is that in all the Liverpool players feeling included, even the Liverpool players that didn’t make it in the matchday squad.”

It was another trophy to Liverpool’s armoury and a first League Cup for Jurgen Klopp.

The only trophy the German is yet to win in English football is the FA Cup, and perhaps, just perhaps, he will also add that medal around his neck this season.

Liverpool are still in every competition and they are still on course to win an unlikely quadruple.

Whilst it’s highly unlikely that will happen, they still have every chance to add multiple trophies to their cabinet and the squad depth Klopp has to choose from is a big reason why.
