Leeds United goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell came in for criticism following a challenge during the second-half of their latest Championship win.
As if there were not enough talking points already emerging from the game, Peacock-Farrell managed to infuriate the Derby supporters after the break when he collected a high ball from Holmes and caught the Rams midfielder in the face with his boot on his way down to the ground.
It was a poor challenge from the Whites goalkeeper, who was not punished at the time. And Andrews – who seems to have become the least popular pundit amongst the Elland Road faithful following Friday’s game – did not hold back in his criticism of Peacock-Farrell’s actions.
“I couldn’t believe what I was seeing, and it’s a big bugbear of mine the way that goalkeepers are allowed to come out with that high knee. It’s something that they get taught by goalkeeping coaches,” he told Sky Sports.
“I think it’s a penalty kick and I think it’s a borderline red card. I think it’s a disgusting challenge. I think it’s actually cowardly because he’s got the ball in his hands. I think it’s a disgrace.”
Peacock-Farrell can have few complaints if he does face retrospective action, unless, of course, the referee and officials – who had a very poor night – saw the incident and decided to not dish out a punishment.
However, Leeds fans will argue that Holmes should not have been allowed to get that far anyway having seemingly used a high foot to get past Pontus Jansson. Jansson did duck down slightly, but Holmes’ leg was still high in the air, and it is a surprise that a free-kick was not given at that point.
Nevertheless, Peacock-Farrell may be expecting a nervous wait while it is determined whether he will face any retrospective action.
