Pablo Hernandez was outstanding as Leeds United picked up a remarkable win in the Championship.
Keith Andrews has labelled Pablo Hernandez’s performance during Leeds United’s stunning 4-0 win against West Brom outrageous, and suggested that he is the most creative player in the Championship in his post-match comments on Sky Sports (broadcast on 1/3 from 19:00).
Hernandez got Leeds off to a flyer with a sumptuous finish in the opening seconds of the game. He received the ball on the edge of the box, and timed his shot perfectly as Tosin Adarabioyo decided to step away from the Spaniard, leaving the playmaker the yard of space he needed to unleash a brilliant effort into the top corner to put Leeds 1-0 up.
The 33-year-old continued to cause all sorts of problems as Marcelo Bielsa’s scored three more goals to move themselves back into the automatic-promotion spots.
And Andrews – who has not been the most popular pundit amongst Leeds supporters in recent times – suggested that Hernandez’s performance was as good as anything he has seen.
“He was outrageous, he really was,” he told Sky Sports. “Right from the off. Back to his razor sharp best. He plays with his head up. He had Ayling going on the overlap time and time again, picked up pockets in between the midfield of West Brom, spraying passes all over the place.
“He’s just a dangerous player that is as creative as there is in the division.”
Hernandez has really stepped his game up several levels this season. His quality has never been disputed, but his tally of eight goals and 11 assists is remarkable. It is already his best return for a campaign since he arrived at Elland Road in 2016.
And as he has such an impact on his teammates, it is difficult to imagine Leeds not getting promoted if he continues to play like he did on Friday during the remaining weeks of the campaign.
