West Ham United currently have two players on their books permanently who are set to see their contracts expire this summer.
West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic
With the season starting to reach the business end, clubs towards mid-table in the Premier League may be beginning to switch some of their attention towards their plans for the summer, including considering which players should be targeted and which should be moved on.
West Ham are one such team that appear to have very little to fight for during the final weeks of the campaign, so Slaven Bilic would be forgiven for turning his attention towards the end of the season already.
One decision Bilic will need to make is whether to keep either of the two players currently on permanent deals at the London Stadium that are set to see their contracts expire this summer (via transfermarkt). So what should Bilic do? Here is our verdict on the pair…
Alvaro Arbeloa
West Ham United’s Alvaro Arbeloa
Given Alvaro Arbeloa’s experience, it certainly seemed to be an astute piece of business to sign him in the summer. However, the Spaniard has offered very little, and it would arguably be a surprise if there are any attempts to tie him down for another year.
Verdict: Release
Adrian
Unlike when contemplating Arbeloa’s future, deciding whether to keep Adrian is surely going to take Bilic a fair amount of time. He may have lost his place to Darren Randolph as the Hammers’ number one, but he would arguably be one of the better understudies in the division if he stayed at the London Stadium. Whether that would be enough for the Spaniard however, remains to be seen.
Of course, if the Irons decided to target a new stopper, then the situation would change, but for now, it makes little sense to let him leave.
Verdict: Keep
West Ham’s Adrian
