Dele Alli has told ex-Tottenham man, Kyle Walker-Peters, ‘keep doing what they said you couldn’t’, as he posted on Instagram.
The Everton midfielder added by saying ‘keep shining’, as he sent his birthday wishes to the Southampton player.
Walker-Peters has turned 25, and since being sold by Spurs in 2020 for £12 million (BBC Sport), he has become an established Premier League player and an England international.
When Spurs decided to let him go, it would have been difficult for him to take, but he has bounced back in the best way possible.
The versatile defender, who has been used as a left-back by Southampton, could argue that he would get into Spurs’ XI now.
Emerson Royal, Matt Doherty and Sergio Reguilon have been the players used as wing-backs in recent times by Antonio Conte.
Whilst Doherty, prior to his injury, had started to pick up his form, overall, Walker-Peters has consistently outperformed those players donning Tottenham colours on the flanks.
But what is Tottenham’s loss is now Southampton’s gain, as Walker-Peters’ aim is to now get into the England squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
It doesn’t help the players cause that he is up against so much quality and an area of the pitch where England are very well covered.
