According to Melissa Reddy, Arsenal fans should “keep an eye” on a potential deal for Cody Gakpo ahead of the transfer deadline on Thursday.
What’s the story?
Well, the 36-year-old was speaking live on Sky Sports earlier today, where she gave a detailed assessment of the in-demand PSV Eindhoven forward.
Reddy said: “It’s not surprising that a lot of Premier League clubs are looking at him. One of the other names I was told to keep an eye out for is Arsenal, who have said they would like to enhance their offensive options.”
The Sky Sports Senior Reporter added that Southampton have seen a bid rejected for the Netherlands international, while Newcastle and Leeds are also interested in the 23-year-old’s services.
However, Reddy gives special mention to Arsenal, telling supporters to “keep an eye” on the situation, while she also claimed that Gakpo is of a similar profile to Bayern Munich forward Sadio Mane.
Interest in the Dutchman comes after he impressively scored 21 goals and provided 15 assists in 47 appearances last season.
Gakpo has continued his fine form in the Netherlands with four goals and six assists in just eight outings so far this term.
According to another Sky Sports employee – Rob Dorsett – PSV Eindhoven value their No.11 at £25m, and he is interested in a move to the Premier League, which bodes well for Mikel Arteta.
Cody Gakpo would thrive at Arsenal
In our view, Gakpo’s impressive physique, technical ability and leadership qualities would make him an ideal fit for Arteta’s project at the Emirates Stadium.
The youngster has captained PSV Eindhoven on a number of occasions, and has also shown tactical maturity by slotting into a range of positions across the attack, something Arteta has surely taken notice of.

There is a lot to admire about Gakpo, and with Nicolas Pepe now on loan at OGC Nice, there is a space for him to become part of the first-team at Arsenal.
As Reddy instructed, be sure to “keep an eye” on developments involving the talented Dutchman.
