Speaking on the NUFC Matters YouTube channel, CBS journalist, Ben Jacobs has been discussing Lucas Paqueta amid plenty of speculation about his future.

The Brazilian midfielder has been strongly linked with both Arsenal and Newcastle United, but according to Jacobs, the midfielder could also be targeted by West Ham United.

Indeed, Jacobs says that you can’t write West Ham off in this race as the London club look to bolster their midfield.

What’s been said?

Jacobs shared what he knows about Paqueta.

“I think Newcastle will monitor the Paqueta situation, but if Paqueta is really pushing for a move then the clubs that want him, Newcastle included, are trying to establish where that move would be to, whether that’s the league or a specific club. Keep an eye on West Ham as well as they could come into the mix and keep an eye on PSG who want at least three more signings,” Jacobs said.

Lingard upgrade

West Ham may have been disappointed to miss out on Jesse Lingard earlier in this transfer window, but if they land Paqueta, they will soon forget about missing out on the England international.

Indeed, there’s reason to believe that Paqueta would be an upgrade on Lingard. After all, he’s hit double figures in terms of goals in each of his last two seasons, while at the age of just 24, he has so much room to still improve.

Lingard may have been West Ham’s primary target this summer, but if they now go out and get Paqueta, Lingard will be nothing but an afterthought.

Of course, getting the Brazilian is easier said than done. He’s being targeted by both Newcastle and Arsenal, and with all due respect to West Ham, it may be tough for the Hammers to compete in this race.
