Speaking on The Five Insider, David Ornstein has been discussing Harry Kane’s future and a potential move to Manchester United.

The Tottenham striker is about to enter the final 18 months of his Spurs contract, and while speculation around the striker has been quiet for a while, it may just be a matter of time before the transfer rumours start up again.

Indeed, with Spurs looking rather flat under Antonio Conte right now, there isn’t a feeling that major silverware is on its way to north London anytime soon, and Ornstein says that if Spurs don’t start to challenge, Kane could look for a way out – with United keen admirers.

Kane to United?

Ornstein says that the Red Devils are a club to keep an eye on when it comes to Kane.

“One I guess to keep an eye on for us, and I’m not suggesting anything is brewing, is Harry Kane. United have long-been reported admirers of him and credited with an interest. Kane is under contract until 2024 and there hasn’t been much suggestion of a new deal,” Ornstein said.

“Tentative reports here and there, but after that move to Man City never materialised, rumours of Bayern, would United make a play at that? We’ve been told at various times that if Tottenham are challenging for trophies then that would be to Kane’s liking.

“He wants to succeed with Tottenham, and if that were the situation maybe a new contract would come about, but if you get to the point where Tottenham are at the same level they’ve been at in recent years then maybe he would leave as a free agent or maybe Levy would be more open to sanctioning a departure that will secure him a return if he’s not going to sign a new contract.”

Ronaldo replacement

Given the recent news that has broken about Cristiano Ronaldo, this is a transfer that starts to make a lot more sense.

Indeed, with CR7’s mammoth wages probably set to be cleared off of United’s bill in the next few months, a move for Kane would easily be financed by the Red Devils, and if Erik Ten Hag’s side can continue their recent good form, this would be an appealing move for Kane.

Of course, United haven’t won a major trophy in six years now, so a move to Old Trafford doesn’t guarantee silverware by any means, but on their current trajectories, you have to say that United look more likely to win something than Spurs – especially if Kane leaves.
