Newcastle should target Tottenham’s Kevin Wimmer.
Newcastle United signed Florian Lejeune earlier this transfer window, and he may not be the only centre-back they target with The Chronicle earlier reporting they want two players in the position.
Ryan Shawcross and Ruben Semedo are among the names they have missed out on, but one potentially top target may just have thrown his hat into the ring.
Tottenham Hotspur defender Kevin Wimmer declared yesterday that he is keen to quit the club as he is keen to play first team football.
Tottenham’s Kevin Wimmer is keen on an exit
He is quoted by The Mirror: “It would be the most beautiful to stay in the Premier League.
“Twenty-four years is exactly the age at which it is most important to play regularly and not only have to train week after week and have to sit down on the bench at the game.
“In the next few days and weeks, the main focus will certainly be placed on what is there for offers, and we will definitely look around.”

Wimmer is precisely the type of player Newcastle need to target. He is a player with Premier League and Champions League experience, and also featured at Euro 2016 with Austria.
Still only 24-years-old, he has proven to be a reliable performer for Spurs and it is a mystery to many fans why Mauricio Pochettino did not call on him more last season when needing injury cover.
He would make Newcastle a better team, and could flourish with extra responsibility which he wasn’t given on a regular basis at Tottenham.
Tottenham want a high price for the defender, and may be wary of dealing with Newcastle after getting stung in the Moussa Sissoko deal.
Yet if Newcastle are owed money in installments from Tottenham, they could attempt to write some of this off by trying to negotiate a lower outlay on Wimmer.
