The Tottenham Hotspur youngster has impressed further back this season.
While the likes of Marcus Edwards and Kyle Walker-Peters are talked up as the most exciting young talents coming through the ranks at Tottenham Hotspur right now, winger Keanan Bennetts deserves plenty of praise of his own.
Even more so when you consider he is showing his versatility by featuring regularly at left-back for Spurs’ under-23s this season.
The 18-year-old has long been talked up as one of the next electrifying wingers to come through the ranks in North London, yet this season he has featured predominately as a defender, and he becomes the latest Tottenham teenager to get game time in an unfamiliar position in a bid to further develop his game.
Bennetts made headlines with his outstanding equaliser against Swansea City’s second string earlier this month. However, in the three previous league games he played as a left-back, and it will be interesting to see if he ultimately breaks through at Tottenham in a wing-back role.
After all, Mauricio Pochettino has favoured three centre-backs and attacking full-backs this season and Bennetts could represent another exciting option in that regard.
For now Ben Davies is excelling in that role, but with Danny Rose’s future slightly less clear following an ill-judged interview this summer, Bennetts could be getting ready to mount a claim of his own in the years ahead.
