Swansea drew 2-2 with Chelsea at the Liberty stadium Sunday.
Swansea City secured a deserving point against Chelsea in a highly entertaining game.
Diego Costa put the Blues 1-0 in the 18th minute. The Swans won a penalty in the second-half after Thibaut Courtois fouled Gylfi Sigurdsson, and the midfielder put the Swans back in the game. Leroy Fer put the Welsh team in front scoring a controversial goal just two minutes and ten seconds after the penalty.
Costa doubled his tally to put Chelsea level with Swansea. Overall, the Swans should be happy with their point.
Here’s three things we learned from Swansea’s draw:
Francesco Guidolin got it wrong
Swansea’s defence at times looked out of sorts. Guidolin played an unfamiliar style of three at the back, and this formation didn’t seem to suit the Swans. The Welsh side looked vulnerable and were lucky Chelsea didn’t score more in the first-half.
Luckily, Guidolin realised his mistake and changed the formation to four at the back just before half-time. Swansea still looked vulnerable, and it’s clear to see that the Welsh side are lacking quality and a defender who can organise the back line. Swansea were lucky that Chelsea were having an off day.
No more frustration for Fer
A player that has caused real frustration at times for Swansea fans this season – only wanting to be involved when it suited him. But Leroy Fer is finally proving what a great attacking midfielder he is. The Dutchman has already scored three goals this season, and played his part against Chelsea in securing a valuable point.
When in form, Fer is a player who can make a big difference to Swansea’s side this year.
Sigurdsson is the Swans leading goal scorer
Gylfi Sigurdsson broke records Sunday – his penalty was his 26th league goal for Swansea. The midfielder’s penalty made him the club’s leading scorer in the Premier League – one more than Wilfred Bony.
