Garry Monk’s job as Leeds manager is under pressure after a poor run of results.

Garry Monk has only been in charge at Leeds United for seven Championship games, in that time he has lost five and won just one.

So iIt’s safe to say that this season hasn’t started well for the former Swansea manager, who has seen his side suffer a string of bad results. Leeds currently sit 18th in the table, but despite Monk’s struggles so far, The Whites need to be patient with their new manager.

Monk needs to be given time to put his own stamp on the team

Monk enjoyed a successful spell at Swansea as a player for ten years before retiring to manage the Welsh side. Monk was in charge at the Swans in February 2014 until December 2015 before being sacked. The Englishman was out of the game for six months before being offered a one-year-contract at Leeds.

With only seven games in, it’s ludicrous that Monk’s future is already in doubt, although not unheard of for the club’s owner Massimo Cellino to make a big call so early. How can a manager’s ability be judged in such a short space of time?

Monk needs to be given a chance to prove what he can achieve at Elland Road. At 37, he is a young British manager with fresh ideas but needs time. In the fickle world of football, it seems wrong that he may not be given the chance to do so.

Constant manager merry go round needs to stop

Ruthless owner Massimo Cellino is well known for his impatience when it comes to hiring and firing managers. Monk is Cellino’s 8th manager since he arrived at the club in January 2014. Former manager Steve Evans was appointed at the club before Monk in October 2015, and lasted in the job until the end of the season – Evans was Cellino’s longest serving boss for Leeds.

The fact that Monk was only offered a one-year deal shows that Cellino is reluctant to giving long-term contracts given his track record. Monk knew what he was getting himself into when he signed the contract. A constant change in managers is never good for the team or fans – which perhaps is the reason behind Leeds struggles since Cellino took charge.

As well as results, fans want stability – unfortunately Leeds haven’t got this with Cellino at the club.

Monk has got a point to prove

Having led Swansea to their best ever Premier League finish. Monk’s Swansea side began to struggle, which led to his unceremonious sacking in December 2015.

Given his swift sacking, Monk will want to prove that he can bring success to Leeds in the same way that he did for Swansea during his first full season in charge.

If they can stick with him, then Leeds could ultimately reap the rewards of their patience.
