Despite a good start to the season under Ronald Koeman, three Everton players have failed to perform to their full potential.

Everton boss Ronald Koeman has made it clear that nobody’s place in the starting line-up is safe.

Despite sitting fifth in the table, Everton’s form has taken a recent dip after suffering two straight defeats, to Norwich in the EFL cup, followed by Bournemouth before drawing with Palace.

After the break, the Blues will face their toughest test this season against Manchester City at the Etihad.

In a game where Everton players will have to perform, three players in particular are under pressure to put in good displays.

Ross Barkley

Time could be running out for Ross Barkley to ascend to superstardom.

The 22-year-old’s season began promising after scoring on the opening day against Tottenham, but since then the midfielder has failed to live up to his full potential. It has been a regular sight to see Koeman usually substituting Barkley during recent games.

Fans have even questioned whether or not Barkley should lose his place in the XI. There are only so many times excuses can be made for the midfielder. Barkley has to step up this season – especially if he wants to earn his place back in the England squad.

Gerard Deulofeu

Gerard Deulofeu had an excellent pre-season and looked set to become a main feature in the Blues starting line-up. However, the winger has failed to convince Koeman of this, with the Spaniard often spending much of his time on the bench.

When Deulofeu comes on the pitch, the winger tends to give the ball away with sloppy passes and overplaying it. His pace and magic on the ball that fans know he can achieve, has yet to be seen this season.

Seamus Coleman

It may come as a surprise to find Seamus Coleman on the list, after missing the Blues’ first three league games due to injury, the Irishman regained his position at right-back.

Coleman is arguably one of the Blues best defenders based on previous form, with that reputation comes pressure to perform each week. Lately the 27-year-old hasn’t played as well as fans know he can. After scoring for the Republic of Ireland against Georgia, Coleman has shown the ability he has as an all-round defender, and it should lift his confidence.

With Mason Holgate filling in for Coleman while the defender was injured. Coleman should be wary of the fact that if he doesn’t play well then the youngster could well take his place in Koeman’s plans.
