Swansea City lost 2-1 to Leicester City Saturday.

Swansea City’s start to the season has been a tough one, with the Swans suffering their second consecutive defeat to the champions.

Goals from Jamie Vardy and Wes Morgan put Leicester 2-0 up, and Leroy Fer’s header with 20 minutes to go proved to be a consolation goal.

Despite losing, however, Francesco Guidolin’s side showed some fight, specially after they got back in the game.

Here’s 5 things we learned from Swansea’s defeat:

1. Out with the old and in with the new

Swansea City have looked vulnerable at the back this season. The departure of defensive rock Ashley Williams has left a massive hole in the Welsh team. According to Sky Sports, Swansea are set to sign central defender Alfie Mawson from Barnsley. Whether or not the 22-year old can fill the gap created by Williams’ departure remains to be seen, but fans will be delighted that the club is shoring up at the back.

2. Swansea players will need to quickly up their game

Swansea started the season with a win against Burnley. Two Premier League defeats have followed, and critics are questioning whether or not this season will end up being a relegation battle.

Francesco Guidolin’s side will need to step up after the international break, however, with tough matches to come against Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal.

3. Frustration all round for Fer

Swansea fans appear to be becoming frustrated with Leroy Fer. The defender looked like he didn’t want to be on the pitch at times on Saturday.

Fer’s overall defensive contribution was poor, and he added nothing to the game in the first-half. His goal, however, showed what he’s capable of.

4. Lukasz is Swansea’s star man

Lukasz Fabianski has probably been Swansea’s best player this season. His performances have given the Swans hope that they can get something out of each game.

His terrific saves against Burnley prevented Swansea from going behind. The keeper also saved the Welsh side from an embarrassing defeat against Leicester, after a top class save from Mahrez’s penalty.

5. A promising debut for Oliver McBurnie

After impressing against Peterborough mid-week, McBurnie made his first Premier League debut. When the youngster came on towards the end, there were times where Swansea looked like they could pinch a draw.

With more games under his belt, McBurnie could be a real threat for the opposing team.
