The Spurs striker, 20, is on a loan at the Black Cats until the end of the 2018-19 League One season.
Tottenham Hotspur youngster Kazaiah Sterling has spoken out on his loan switch to Sunderland, outlining his reasons for making the move and sharing his early thoughts about his new teammates.
The 20-year-old sealed the Black Cats switch in January on the back of having made his domestic club debut in their FA Cup defeat at Crystal Palace, with a cameo against APOEL in the Champions League last term being his only other appearance.
Sterling, who won the Player of the Month award for January in the Premier League 2 after some impressive performances for the Spurs reserve side, now has the opportunity to play regular senior football and also play his role in the revival of a big club that had previously fallen on hard times.
Now in training with the Sunderland senior squad, the striker said he is already learning from some of his more experienced peers at the Stadium of Light and is eager to pick up more and more knowledge and experience during his stint at the club.
“You get to learn from them because you’re playing with people who have been in the league for a number of years,” Sterling told Chronicle Live. “You see every day in training their habits, and think about what you can do to be like them. I think that’s really good for me.
“I look at players like Aiden McGeady, he is really good on the ball. Robbin [Ruiter] is another one I have been talking to, he’s made me feel comfortable and encouraged me.”
Sterling’s first appearance for Sunderland was in the 1-0 win over AFC Wimbledon, coming on in the 59th minute (Transfermarkt), and he could be in line for his full Black Cats debut against Oxford United this weekend.
