Kaveh Solhekol has told Sky Sports that Tottenham are not far away from agreeing a fee with Porto for Colombian star Luis Diaz. The superstar winger emerged as a surprise target for Tottenham earlier this week.
Diaz, 25, is considered one of the best players yet to take the leap and join a big European side in the current market. Shining for Porto, Diaz has scored 16 goals in 28 games – and the South American ace has laid on six assists.
SIC Noticias were the first to break news of a bid from Tottenham for Luiz – believed to be an initial £37million, along with £9million more in add-ons. But that has since been rejected, though Tottenham’s interest remains.
Indeed, Solhekol told Wednesday night’s Sky Sports Transfer Show that Spurs are willing to offer more – and that Porto only wants a fee in the region of £50million. There is little difference between the two clubs.
“Portuguese sources have told us that Spurs are willing to pay €45m (£37m) for him plus €10m (£9m) in add-ons, so that is a total of €55m (£46m). Porto want about €60m (£50m), so the two clubs not that far apart.”

Diaz is a superstar. He has the potential to take Tottenham from a top-four challenger, into top-four certainties. Goals, assists, flair, aggression, creativity and the kind of superstar aura that Porto fans have loved.
But a move is looking more and more likely and Spurs will be desperate not to miss out on the next big talent emerging from Portuguese football – as they did with Bruno Fernandes, who of course chose Manchester United.
Diaz, along with Son Heung-min and Harry Kane, is up there with the best attacking threesomes in the Premier League. Spurs must not miss out.
