Can Manchester City repeat the heroics of Arsenal of 2003-04?
West Ham United vice-chairman Karren Brady has commented in her football diary in The Sun on Manchester City’s chances of going through the entire season unbeaten.
City have made a stunning start to the 2016-17 Premier League campaign and have won all five of their league matches so far this season.
Pep Guardiola’s side are playing sensational football as well, and are firm favourites to win the title.
Brady has commented on City’s chances of going the entire season without losing a single Premier League game, just as Arsenal did back during the 2003-04 campaign.
“An Arsenal friend of mine asks me: ‘Do you think Manchester City can equal us and stay unbeaten for a whole league season?’” Brady wrote in her football diary in The Sun.
“Why me? I couldn’t forecast a one-horse race and, anyway, it’s far too early to guess. What we do know is City look a beautifully- balanced side.
“Their rivals must know that to challenge for the title they can afford to lose no more than two or three games in all. The odds on City are, then, somewhat short of 5,000/1.”
What Arsenal achieved during the 2003-04 season was unprecedented and phenomenal, and it is going to be very hard for City to repeat those heroics.
The Premier League title race this season is going to be very competitive, and it is not going to be easy for the Citizens to clinch the championship.
City will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Swansea City away from home at the Liberty Stadium in the Premier League.
The Citizens will head into the match on the back of a 2-1 victory over the Swans in the third round of the EFL Cup.
