West Ham United vice-chairman Karren Brady comments on Birmingham City.

West Ham United vice-chairman Karren Brady has suggested in her football diary in The Sun that Birmingham City should not have sacked Gary Rowett.

Rowett was dismissed as the Birmingham manager in December, with Gianfranco Zola replacing him at St Andrew’s.

When the Englishman lost his job at the Championship club, the team were sitting just outside the play-offs on goal difference.

West Ham vice-chairman Brady has suggested that Birmingham should have not dismissed the former Burton Albion boss.

“Since replacing Gary Rowett with Gianfranco Zola, they have not won a match,” the former Birmingham managing director wrote in her football diary in The Sun.

“I sacked Zola at West Ham. Lovely man but being lovely is not the vital ingredient required to be a top-class manager.

“When Rowett was sacked, the Blues were outside the play-offs on goal difference — now look at them.”

Birmingham are 13th in the Championship table at the moment with 35 points from 25 matches.

The Blues are seven points behind Sheffield Wednesday, who are currently sixth in the standings and occupy the final playoff spot.

Zola’s side will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Nottingham Forest at St. Andrew’s in the Championship.

Birmingham will head into the match on the back of a 1-1 draw with Newcastle United at home in the third round of the FA Cup.

The Blues are still in the running for the Championship playoffs, but they have to start winning games soon.
