Newcastle United got promoted from the Championship at the end of last season and have made signings in the summer transfer window.
West Ham United vice-chairman Karren Brady seems to have mocked Newcastle United in The Sun.
Brady has suggested that Newcastle, who got promoted from the Championship to the Premier League at the end of last season, would need until Christmas to complete their summer transfer dealings.
While discussing in The Sun the prospect of shutting the summer transfer window before the season begins, Brady pointed out the difficulty promoted sides will face as they will get less time to sign players than the 17 clubs who would already be in the Premier League.
“And then there is the real problem of the club promoted by way of the Championship play-offs,” Brady wrote in The Sun. “They, probably more than any other team, need to improve their staff, yet have three weeks less to do it.
“Huddersfield acted quickly and tidily in the ten weeks they had this summer but it would be even less next year. Newcastle would have needed until Christmas.”
Newcastle have made signings so far in the summer transfer window, but not all of them have been inspiring and they still need to bring in more players in order to have a successful 2017-18 Premier League campaign.
Christian Atsu’s loan deal at St. James’ Park from Chelsea has been made permanent, while Jacob Murphy has been signed from Norwich City.
The signing of Mikel Merino on a season-long loan deal from Borussia Dortmund could also prove to be a success, but other than there is no real reason to be excited about any of the other newcomers.
Florian Lejeune, Javier Manquillo and Joselu are decent players, but are they going to make Newcastle top-10 contenders?
The Magpies also need to sign a proven goalscorer who can find the net 15 to 20 times in the Premier League this season.
