Leeds United forward Patrick Bamford, banned for his action against Aston Villa, is strongly criticised by West Ham United vice-chairman Karren Brady.
During the Championship game between Leeds and Villa at Elland Road last month, there were some very strange and interesting scenes in the second half.
In the 72nd minute, Poland international midfielder Mateusz Klich scored a controversial goal.
The Villa players felt that the Whites should have kicked the ball out of play due to an injury to Jonathan Kodjia.
During the melee that followed, Leeds forward Bamford feigned an injury, pretending that he had been elbowed in the face by Villa’s Anwar El Ghazi.
El Ghazi was dismissed, but television cameras showed that the 25-year-old had playacted, and the former Chelsea and Nottingham Forest forward was subsequently banned for two matches after being found guilty of “successful deception of a match official”, as reported on BBC Sport.
West Ham vice-chairman Brady has strongly criticised Bamford, and wrote in The Sun: “Worst sight of the season was Leeds striker Patrick Bamford collapsing in a pain-riddled heap with no Villa player near him. He should be ashamed of his acting. A two-match ban wasn’t enough.”
Both Leeds and Villa have progressed to the Championship playoff semi-finals and could face each other in the final.
