Karolina Muchova secured her first title since 2019 after defeating Victoria Mboko in Saturday’s Qatar Open final.

Muchova, the new world number 11, defeated Mboko 6-4, 7-5, winning her first WTA Tour event since the 2019 Korea Open.

The Czech star was in superb form throughout the week, defeating Maria Sakkari, Karolina Pliskova and Anna Kalinskaya on her way to a first WTA 1000 triumph.

After clinching the title on Saturday, Muchova posted a short message on social media, celebrating her success in Doha.

After wrapping up victory against Mboko, Muchova posted a message on Instagram which read: “Been a while… Doha.”

Muchova’s appearance at the Qatar Open was her first since 2023. At the event, Muchova defeated Martina Trevisan before losing to Caroline Garcia in the round of 16.

Ironically, Garcia – the former WTA Finals champion – was one of the first to congratulate Muchova in the comments of the Czech players’ social media post.

Garcia said: “So happy for you! Well deserved.”

Amanda Anisimova, the world number five, expressed her delight at seeing one of Muchova’s photos: a selfie with the Qatar Open trophy.

Priscilla Hon also congratulated Muchova, saying: “This makes me happy.”

Ons Jabeur, Teresa Valentova, Barbora Strycova, Lucie Safarova and Rebecca Sramkova also sent congratulatory replies.

Victoria Mboko’s message

Mboko will be understandably disappointed not to have won her second WTA 1000 title. However, she can take great pride in a week that included victories over Mirra Andreeva and Elena Rybakina.

After losing the final, the Canadian star thanked her team while taking a positive outlook away with her.
