Glasgow Rangers forward Joe Dodoo has left Ibrox for Charlton Athletic on a season-long loan.

Karl Robinson has told Charlton’s official website that despite Rangers ‘sensation’ Joe Dodoo’s excellent debut following his loan switch to The Valley, he is still miles off the level he wants him to be at.

Dodoo was one of a number of players that Pedro Caixinha allowed to leave Ibrox over the summer, with the 22-year-old joining the League One side on a season-long loan.

And he introduced himself to the League One side’s supporters by scoring what proved to be the winner in the weekend win over Oldham.

And after the contest – which finished 4-3 – Robinson stressed that while he feels that Dodoo has a long way to go to before he is fully up to speed, there is more than enough reason to be optimistic.

“He went up there (Rangers) as a bit of a teen sensation and it didn’t really materialise. We know that Joe is a top player. He’s still miles off, you can see he doesn’t get in shape yet, he plays off the cuff but hopefully he can grow with this team,” he told the club’s official website.

“We’re young, we’re energetic and hopefully he’s another one of them. To get a goal on your debut is great for him.”

With Dodoo clearly boasting plenty of talent and potential, Caixinha may be hoping that his loan spell presents him with the chance to get plenty of competitive football under his belt.

Following up his debut goal with a number of strikes during the upcoming year with surely see him return to Ibrox with an increased amount of confidence that he can prove to be the player that the Gers hoped that they would be signing when they landed him one year ago.
