MK Dons manager Karl Robinson explained that Dele Alli’s performances improved after he sealed a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
MK Dons manager Karl Robinson revealed on the Colin Murray Show for talkSPORT the effect Dele Alli’s move to Tottenham Hotspur had on his performances.
Tottenham wrapped up a deal for the best young player in the Football League last winter and Robinson has suggested they have secured a top quality long term talent.
“He’s fearless. He goes through his life and all he cares about is football. He left and his performances increased,” said Robinson.
“I spoke to him with about a week to go (of the transfer window) and he said I really want to stay, I’m desperate to stay.”
It’s significant that Alli used the move to Tottenham as inspiration to push himself and improve because the standard at White Hart Lane is going to be significantly higher than he’s currently experiencing.
There is evidence in the likes of Ryan Mason and Nabil Bentaleb for him to be confident of getting a chance, but Alex Pritchard has been exceptional for Brentford and will also be pushing for a midfield role next season.
Robinson’s comments also show Alli’s loyalty, which is significant for his future career at Tottenham.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino will more than likely be impressed by the bond he has created with the MK Dons and should be hoping that he develops something similar as a player at Tottenham.
The MK Dons are in the hunt for automatic promotion into the Championship, which would represent the best possible way for Alli to pay back the side that offered him a platform to develop into the player, who impressed Tottenham enough for them to buy him.
