Speaking to Charlton Athletic’s official website, manager Karl Robinson is delighted to have signed Rangers striker Joe Dodoo on loan.

The 22-year-old has joined Charlton on loan until January after his career at Ibrox stifled a little following Pedro Caixinha replacing Mark Warburton.

The former Leicester City man has not made an appearance in any competition this season, which put the writing on the wall in regards to his first-team prospects.

Dodoo netted five times from 25 games in all competitions for Rangers last season, and Robinson sounds very happy to have signed him.

He told the club’s official website: “Since he went to Rangers, he has not played much as a number nine, which is the position he wants to play in and the position I want to play him in.

“I’ve spoken to two or three players that have played with him at Rangers, I’ve spoken to the people that signed him, so four or five individuals. Their references were that “he’s a good’un and someone that not many would have picked out”.

“He can reach those dizzy heights of quality but when you get that quality there are peaks and troughs because he is so young.”

With Alfredo Morelos doing damage in the goalscoring stakes, Eduardo Herrera slowly but surely improving and Kenny Miller being, well, Kenny Miller, there was little room for Dodoo at Ibrox this season and leaving was the smart move.
