According to The Sun, Leeds United and Aston Villa are interested in signing Karl Darlow from Newcastle United in the January transfer window.

Both Leeds and Villa ambitious and massive clubs in the Championship and are aiming to win promotion to the Premier League.

With Martin Dubravka clearly the first-choice goalkeeper at Newcastle at the moment, Darlow will struggle for playing time once he recovers by the New Year, and it will make sense for the 28-year-old to leave the Magpies in the January transfer window.

If there is a choice between Leeds and Villa, then the 28-year-old should pick the former.

True, the Villans are a strong team and Orjan Nyland has not looked entirely convincing this season, at Leeds, the Newcastle goalkeeper will be able to work with one of the best football managers in Marcelo Bielsa.

Moreover, Leeds are in a better position than Villa to finish in the top two of the Championship this season and clinch automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Furthermore, there is a clear need for an establish goalkeeper at Elland Road. Jamal Blackman has returned to Chelsea from his loan spell at Leeds after breaking his leg, leaving Bailey Peacock-Farrell the only recognised custodian.

Peacock-Farrell is only 22 years of age, and there have been occasions when he has looked shaky between the posts and has made costly errors.

Darlow will not only be able to compete with Peacock-Farrell for the number one spot between the posts, but the 28-year-old will also be able to step in as the first choice.
