Darlow has been a regular for Newcastle United over the past few months.

Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow has described to Sky Sports’ EFL Weekly podcast how he felt when the club signed Matz Sels last summer.
Darlow played all but two of the Magpies’ fixtures under Rafa Benitez last season and looked set to begin the new campaign as the club’s number 1, with Rob Elliot and Tim Krul both injured.
Despite having promising youngster Freddie Woodman on the books, Newcastle opted to spend a reported £5.6 million on another goalkeeper in Sels, and the Belgian was subsequently given the nod as Benitez’s first choice.
Darlow, though, has fought his way back having sat out the Magpies first nine Championship fixtures, appearing in every single one since then.
“I knew there was going to be though competition for places, I was well aware of that,” Darlow told Sky Sports’ EFL Weekly podcast when asked how he felt at the time of Sels’ arrival. “The manager told me that, and I knew I just needed to fight for my place.”

On whether or not the pair get on, the former Nottingham Forest man added: “Yeah, of course we do. We’re a good unit actually. We work very hard day in, day out. We’ve got an unbelievable set of goalkeepers here now. We know that if one of us isn’t playing so well then someone else can take your spot at any point.”
Krul was later shipped out to Ajax on a season-long loan but is yet to feature for the Dutch side as he continues his recovery from injury.
