Tottenham Hotspur were linked, but Mariano Diaz could be set for Lyon instead.

Earlier this week Diario Madridista reported Real Madrid striker Mariano Diaz had his heart set on a potential switch to Tottenham Hotspur.
The Dominican Republic centre-forward stepped up to score four first team goals for Real’s first team last season but first team chances for now remain limited.
Now any hopes of a Tottenham transfer appear to be off, thanks to Karim Benzema.
Marca report Benzema has recommended Diaz join his former club Lyon, and the French side are close to striking a deal with Real Madrid.

Diaz is expected to sign on a season long loan at Lyon, where he would replace the outgoing Alexandre Lacazette.
It is reported that Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas spoke with Benzema personally and the Frenchman gave a glowing report about Diaz, prompting the Ligue 1 side to press ahead with a deal.
Due to the fact a loan is being proposed, there is still a chance Diaz gets his hope to work with Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino in the future, it just looks increasingly likely it will not be this season.
