Boro have signed the pacey Spanish winger on a four-year deal from Aston Villa.
Middlesbrough have completed the signing of Spanish winger Adama Traore from Aston Villa and manager Aitor Karanka has insisted that the 20-year-old is a far better player than he showed at Villa Park, as quoted by the Boro official website.
Traore has joined Boro on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee after a single unsuccessful year with the Birmingham club.
The young star arrived at Villa from the Barcelona B team will big billing and for a sizeable £7 million fee, but he failed to show any consistent form and become an important first-team player for the club.
In fact, he featured in just 11 games in all competitions, with 10 of those coming as substitute appearances in the Premier League.
Though he did register two assists in the league and a goal in the League Cup for Villa, his only campaign in B6 was marred by injury and fitness issues, and whispers of attitude problems, and after making a single substitute appearance this term he has now moved to Teesside.
At the Riverside he will link up with Spanish boss Aitor Karanka, who has been aware of the winger’s talents since his days as a youth coach for Spain.
Karanka is delighted to secure the signing of Traore and insisted to the Boro website that he is a far better player than he was able to show for Villa.
The 42-year-old said: “He is another important player and I am expecting a lot from him.
“I’ve known him since he was a kid. He went into the national team just after I left, but I know all about him and what he can do.
“His level is higher than he showed last season, but in the right environment I’m hoping that he will show what he is capable of.”
Though they were separate deals, Boro and Villa have effectively swapped wingers on deadline day with Albert Adomah heading in the opposite direction.
It remains to be seen which club has got the better deal.
