According to the Evening Standard, Tottenham youngster Troy Parrott is on the verge of a loan deal with Millwall.

They report that he is set for a medical with the Championship outfit ahead of spending next season under Gary Rowett’s tutelage.

If he does move to the Den, Parrott would be walking in the footsteps of the men who sets the standard for any forwards coming through at Spurs now – Harry Kane.

Kane also joined Millwall on loan when he was 18, and has since been quoted effusively praising the role of the club in his development.

He was quoted by the Telegraph in 2017, saying: “It was big part of my development.

“I had a great time at Millwall, I enjoyed my loan spell there. I was 18 at the time, playing in the Championship, we were in a relegation battle and it really turned me into a man.

“I was playing in difficult, high pressure games and I managed to come out of it positively.”

Given that Millwall finished just two points outside the play offs in the Championship this season, perhaps a relegation battle won’t be on the cards for Parrott next term.

But he will be playing in games which matter far more than age group ones, in front of a crowd as passionate as any once fans are allowed back in.

The challenge for any young Spurs forward is to walk in Kane’s shoes. By coincidence, Parrott is about to make the same loan move Kane made at the same age.

His comments five years on show what an opportunity it could be and how it may further the Irishman’s development – it all depends on him now.
