Tottenham Hotspur talent is being tested, at a key time.
Tottenham Hotspur have high hopes for young striker Reo Griffiths.
The 17-year-old has scored 24 goals in all competitions at youth level this season, and is their under-18s top scorer.
At the weekend he stepped up to the under-23 team, featuring as a starter in the 3-1 away win over rivals Arsenal.
Although he did not score, he made a valuable contribution and his efforts were praised after the game.
Tottenham under-23 assistant coach Justin Cochrace told the club’s official website: “Reo Griffiths worked hard and caused them some problems as well, winning us the set-piece that led to the third goal, so he came out in credit too.”
Griffiths’ step up to the under-23s shows how highly he is regarded, and his performance showed he belongs at that level.
An injury to Harry Kane could potentially hand him first team opportunities if he is out for a prolonged spell.
Spurs may want to see Griffiths start scoring regularly for the under-23s before they consider this, but if Kane’s back-up Fernando Llorente fails to take his chances, then Spurs will have to consider alternatives.
Along with Kazaiah Sterling, Griffiths is one of their bright young strikers who who to follow in Kane’s footsteps, and perhaps it could be sooner rather than later.
