Tim Sherwood has named Tottenham Hotspur summer transfer target and now-Manchester United star Christian Eriksen in his Team of the Season at the halfway stage of the 2022/23 Premier League campaign.

The former Tottenham boss added that ‘everyone was questioning’ Eriksen’s move to Manchester United, but he has stood up and performed.

Sherwood added how someone like Harry Kane ‘learnt off’ the 30-year-old during their days in Spurs colours and he hopes Man United’s new rising star, Alejandro Garnacho, follows suit, as he told talkSPORT.

After those well-documented health problems at Euro 2020, it has been some turnaround for Eriksen, who is now headed to the 2022 World Cup with Denmark.

“Christian Eriksen, I am putting in there,” said Sherwood. “Everyone was questioning his big move. He went to Inter and hardly played. We know he had health problems.

“Then he goes to Man United, one of the biggest clubs in the world, and he just stands up. I knew he would because I know the character of the boy. He’s just a great example of how you need to conduct yourself.

“If you want to learn off anyone. Garnacho, that young boy who is going to be a sensation, he needs to go and sit next to Christian Eriksen and learn how to be a professional footballer. You will never get a better example. Harry (Kane) learnt off Christian. I am sure that boy will pick the right person in the dressing room to learn off.”

TOTTENHAM NEED A PLAYER OF ERIKSEN’S ILK

Tottenham fans have been crying out for that forward-thinking player in their midfield, someone who can pick the pockets, thread the ball forward and force the opposition to go the other way.

Rodrigo Bentancur, when provided with the licence to push forward, has supplied that much-needed flair in attack.

But given Eriksen’s performances this season, should Spurs have signed him during the summer transfer window, or at least, a player of his ilk?

Because they might need to re-visit that scenario when the January transfer window opens after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
