Speaking on the Sky Sports Football Podcast, Jamie Redknapp has been discussing Rodrigo Bentancur after a purple patch from the Uruguayan.
The midfielder has been one of Spurs’ shining lights over the past few weeks as the rest of the team has faltered – absolutely running the show last weekend with a Man of the Match showing against Bournemouth.
Bentancur has been quietly performing very well for Spurs, so much so that he’s been described as their ‘unsung hero’ by Redknapp.
In fact, Redknapp has gone as far as to say that Bentancur has been Spurs’ best player this season.

Bentancur Spurs’ best
Redknapp had some special praise for the South American.
“I always think about the engine room. Bentancur for Spurs has been their unsung hero. Harry Kane gets all of the plaudits, but Bentancur has been the best player for me pound-for-pound. He does things in such a quiet way,” Redknapp said.
Give Kane credit
Rodrigo Bentancur has been fantastic for Tottenham this season, but to say that he’s been Spurs’ best player would be completely unfair to Harry Kane.
Everyone has almost become numb to Kane’s brilliance because it’s been so constant over the past decade, but at the end of the day, this is a striker with 10 goals in 13 Premier League appearances so far this season. He’s been ridiculously good.
If it wasn’t for Erling Haaland’s mind-boggling scoring rate, we’d be talking about one of Kane’s best seasons yet, and without the England captain in their side, Spurs would be mid-table.
Bentancur deserves a lot of credit for how he’s played in recent weeks – that’s for sure, but make no mistake about it, Kane is Tottenham’s best player.
