With the Qatar World Cup set to go underway, we decided to put forth our mid-season Power Rankings for Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur side.
1.(0) Harry Kane maintains top spot in our Power Rankings
While Tottenham Hotspur leaving with three points or none has been a flip of a coin so far this season, the one constant remains Harry Kane’s inevitability in front of goal.
Despite Son Heung-min failing to recapture his exploits from last season and Dejan Kulusevski only just returning from a hamstring injury, it seems as if nothing can deter the England captain from maintaining his status as one of the best strikers in world football.
If it was not for the freakish goalscoring rate of Erling Haaland, one can assure that the 29-year old would be lauded for scoring 12 goals in 14 league games for a Spurs side that struggle to create chances.
Dragging Tottenham singlehandedly as he always does, Harry Kane deserved to remain unmoved since our previous edition of the club’s Power Rankings.
2. (0) Rodrigo Bentancur gets the Harry Kane treatment by staying 2nd
As the season has progressed, many fans and pundits alike have started to open their eyes to the magnificence of Rodrigo Bentancur.
In a side that is dying for a creative force, the Uruguayan international conjures something out of nothing, time and again.
The former Juventus man’s incredible ball-carrying ability coupled with how effortlessly he wriggles out of tight spaces has made him a joy to watch this term.
And be it setting up Pierre Emile-Hojberg’s winner against Marseille that ensured Tottenham qualified for the last-16 of the Champions League or bagging a brace to get his side the three points against Leeds, Bentancur simply always comes up clutch.
If it was not for the sheer magnificence of Harry Kane, Rodrigo Bentancur would be numero uno.
3. (+4) Pierre Emile-Hojberg gets a boost for his admirable consistency
While a chunk of players at Spurs have flattered to deceive this season, Pierre Emile-Hojberg cannot be associated with said bunch.
In the middle of the park, the Danish international has perhaps elevated his game from the 2021/2022 season.
Snuffing out any signs of danger and allowing this transition-heavy Tottenham side to hit oppositions on the break, Hojberg has been at the heart of all things positive for his side.
The 27-year old deserves his credit for being the epitome of consistency by getting the biggest bump in our latest Power Rankings.
4. (+1) Dejan Kulusevski rises one spot above in 4th
In all honesty, the elegant winger would undoubtedly have ranked higher in our Power Rankings, had he not suffered an untimely hamstring injury.
After all, the Swede was out of action for as many as 10 combined games in the Premier League and the Champions League.
However, it’s safe to say that when Kulusevski has been on the pitch, he has been nothing short of mesmeric.
Moments such as the ex-Juventus wideman’s sublime assist for Rodrigo Bentancur’s winner against Leeds or his stunning cross for Ryan Sessegnon’s backpost header against Southampton prove that the 22-year old has magic in his boots.
It is no surprise that Antonio Conte’s side lost as many as 3 out of 6 league games in the silky technician’s absence, as he may well have become the side’s biggest difference maker after Harry Kane.
5. (+1) Eric Dier gets a one-place bump
For large parts of the ongoing season, Eric Dier has undoubtedly been Tottenham’s most reliable centre-back.
So much so that Gareth Southgate deemed him ready to head to the World Cup for England, due to how comfortable he has looked for Spurs in a back three.
While recent memory instantly takes one back to his comical backpass that set up Mohamed Salah’s opener against Liverpool, he has largely been a consistent presence in an extremely erratic team.
